Joel Loxton is an award-winning writer and director whose work explores themes of identity, isolation, and the human need for control in an unpredictable world. With a signature tone that balances suspense, dark humour, and moral complexity, his stories are built on an expert foundation in narrative craft from two Master’s degrees in directing and writing from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) and the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA).

His acclaimed short film, THE KANGAROO GUY, a sharp political satire about the absurdity of public image, was broadcast nationally on ABC iView and featured as in-flight entertainment for Virgin Australia after a successful festival run. A testament to his writing, Joel was selected for the prestigious Australian Writers’ Guild’s Untapped development program.

Joel’s directorial approach is informed by a 360-degree command of the filmmaking process, honed over a decade of hands-on industry experience. He has worked in the edit rooms of major international productions, including Dancing with the Stars and The Great Australian Bake Off for BBC Studios, and Mythbusters T.Y.P. for Beyond Productions. This practical expertise is paired with a background in creative leadership, having previously served as a Senior Lecturer and Post Production Supervisor at JMC Academy and the New York Film Academy.
